Bill Manci is a Certified Fisheries Professional and president of Fisheries Technology Associates, Inc., Fort Collins, CO. Bill created the company in 1982 after receiving his formal training in zoology and fisheries science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and after a six-year career in aquaculture research. Bill has been a consultant since 1980 and has worked on many types of aquaculture and fish farming projects throughout the USA and other countries. He also has published more and 300 technical and popular articles on the subjects of aquaculture and fish farming. Bill's 32 years of experience in aquaculture was launched with a fish species that has followed him through his career—yellow perch. He is an expert in the biology and production of this fish and considers it his "signature" species. He has researched and written extensively on this species, as well as many others. First and foremost, Bill prides himself on his ability to understand this species and its requirements both in nature and in production settings, and the relationships between the fish's technical requirements and specifications imposed by production in aquaculture systems. He has significant experience in the production of yellow perch in recirculating aquaculture systems—indoor systems whose purpose is to conserve valuable resources such as water and heat and allow production on a year-round basis which otherwise is not possible. Few others have his combination of academic and applied experience and insight into this fascinating species. |
